We love to talk?

This is the one of the answers of the Professor's blog challenge today. This bar chart shows the change of average ARPU (average revenue per user) in Japan. (ARPU is weighted by the number of subscribers at the end of each financial year in this data). Data source is the survey of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Surprisingly, even in Japan, where the people have been using the mobile internet more than 10 years, FY2010 was the first year that Data ARPU overtook the Voice ARPU though the Voice ARPU has been significantly decreasing. Furthermore, the portion of voice ARPU, 44.3% in FY2011, does not necessarily show the accurate portion of the voice usage because many users, including myself, are talking with VoIP phone like Skype, LINE, and Viber.

We love to talk. Don't we?
