Apple and Nike practiced Co-Marketing in the above link. Both company benefited from the partnership. For partnership to be successful both parties much befit from each other.
There are four main objectives of marketing co-operations
Build-up and/or strengthening of brand/image/traffic by implementing joint or exchange communication measures
Access to new markets/customers by directly addressing the co-operation partner’s customers or by using its distribution points
Increase of customer loyalty by addressing own customers with value added offerings from the partner - often useful for community building
Reduction of marketing costs by bundling or exchanging marketing measures
Co-Marketing is very nice provided both parties will keep to term.
This below is an example of multiple partnering.

Lessons from B-School

Note: This posting has nothing to do with Customer acquisition or eMarketing so make sure u guys read it before it disappears from this blog ;-)

A friend of mine sent me this link. Its a simple article about the lessons that this MBA grad learnt from his B-School experience. If your too lazy to read it here are the some of the lessons he learnt...

1. 'I have spent too much time focused on the United States and, specifically, California. I need to really expand my knowledge and viewpoints.'.. This reminded me of what we heard during our welcoming day speech ... 'We all come from our villages, we need to integrate and reach out to others and learn to respect each other in this Global village.' (Hmm... it was something along those lines)

2. ' The Bank of Japan is not like the Bank of America (BAC). In fact, it's more like the Federal Reserve. They help set monetary policy, print money, etcetera' ... to understand the context of this you need to read the article.

3. '"Things that seem elective now will be mandatory soon. Worrying about poverty, climate change, pollution, disease, and migration all seem elective now. It's overwhelmingly likely that they'll be fundamental to any business in your lifetimes. You can choose to think harder about these things sooner." I know this might sound a bit too far fetched but it could be true for people who are civil servants and I strongly believe issues like these will have a significant impact in our lives regardless of which field we work in.

4. 'No matter who we are or where we are from, We have similar hopes and dreams.' Do I need to explain this ?

Hope you liked the article.

Starting making money from affiliate marketing

How to Choose Your Affiliate Marketing Niche

The author discusses how to start making money from affiliate marketing niche. Basically, affiliate with other to make money is just like running a business. Thus, we need to pursue area of interest, the area that we have some skills. After all, since we do it for monetary terms we need to move into the area where there is a demand.

Video Game Ads

No, I am not referring to the advertisements that you find on video games magazine or Gamespot.com© promoting the latest shoot-em up or the upcoming Starcraft II. Apparently video games producers have found a way to increase funding through selling virtual real estate for real life ads. Obama certainly wants a piece of the virtual pie - so to speak.

The Barack Obama presidential campaign has broken ground in a relatively new ad medium: in-game advertising. The candidate has purchased ads in the Xbox 360 car-racing title "Burnout: Paradise City." When a gamer goes online to play against other racers, the ad appears as a billboard.

The game features a multiplayer ele
ment in which users can play against each other if they hook their Xbox consoles up to the Internet. When the game is connected to the Web, new advertisements can be placed on billboards that players see as they race through the streets.

Obama's ad reads "Early voting has begun. Voteforchange.com. Paid for by Obama for President."

Real time marketing research: Experience sharing

Background:
Telenor, Bangladesh Operation was suffering from poor customer satisfaction from its business consumer segment. Big corporate clients were switching to other operator.

Fact Finding:
At that time there was no customized service package and no priority service channel for business segment. Everybody had to visit their service booth to avail any sort of service.

Competitors Analysis:
Other 2 companies among 4 were introduced priority service channel for business customer but they were far behind from TELENOR due to superior network capability. But the situation was improving day by day.

Research method:
We divided the total country into 8 geographic zones. We selected 100 customer service officers from 100 service booth. Everyone was assigned to record real time conversation of 5 business customers within two months while they were availing service. Off course in some point they were poked by customer service officer to extract their aggression towards company, service, product etc.

Outcome & success:
Based on the findings the company opened up a new direct sales and service channel dedicated for business segment. Besides in every city a priority service booth was arranged. Finally the company launched a new data and voice package named business solutions for that segment with higher price than mass market. But it was an immense success and still continuing.

Future of the internet

It's quite long VDO but i guess it's worth having a look.

Gorilla and Monkey

In class, we saw a gorilla drums in the advertisement movie, and it reminds me of a very old Sony’s commercial message.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=IKzNIP1x1R4&feature=related

This TV commercial message was broadcasted in 1987. At that time, this kind of TV CM was quite new, so it became very popular and greatly contributed to Sony and Walkman’s brand image. As a result, the sales of Walkman increased dramatically. ( I think it was not only in Japan.. Did you know that? )

The monkey closes its eyes and acts like a human being, and it really enjoys music.
In this point, I cannot help thinking gorilla’s movie to be an imitation… Am I too doubtful?

Anyway, we saw various examples of viral marketing, and then I would like to continue to study how to differentiate and how to protect intellectual property and brand image.

Google Analytics + Online Marketing

Recently I had a chat with a friend of mine who is a developer and someone who has an e-Business based in Palestine. You can check out his website here (this link is a translated version of the original page which is in Arabic). More about his very 'interesting' business model later.

He recommended Google analytics to measure online marketing performance. I was amazed to see the report he got for his website. There is so much valuable information that is simply fantastic. According to the Google Analytics website "You can Learn more about where your visitors come from and how they interact with your site. You'll get the information you need to write better ads, strengthen your marketing initiatives, and create higher-converting websites." Here is a list of benefits they have and I was wondering if we could analyze this page and identify their 'value proposition'. Any takers??

To Prof. Sugai - I tried to add analytics for our blog unfortunately I could not as I do not have administrator privileges. I strongly recommend we add analytics to our blog so that we can have a case study towards the end of this semester or later. Some of the case studies about analytics can be found here.

Viral Marketing: Google 10th to 100th ($10 Million Prize) & Google Android ($10 Million Prize)

Google 10th to the 100th
Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project

When I think of "Virus Marketing" or Viral marketing, these two project come in mind. It's the project that spread out by word of mouth like a virus. You can't just stop people from participating due to its $10 Million Prize commitment.

Web Metrics and Advertising ROI Tool

Thanks to Dimas, here is the link to a fantastic tool for analyzing the effectiveness (and value) of a web advertising campaign.

Gourmet Navigator

Hi all, I would like to introduce you my favorite site which uses a kind of viral-marketing, Gourmet Navigator.
http://www.gnavi.co.jp/
http://www.gnavi.co.jp/en/
This is a very useful restaurant guide, but English version is not so useful… I always search bars in this site; many of Japanese people are so shy that we can talk with our bosses honestly only when we are drinking....
Anyway, when I find a good restaurant, I can easily inform all members about the restaurant by e-mail which includes the name of "Gourmet Navigator". So, I always introduce all members about "Gourmet Navigator" unconsciously, and they may introduce other people by using this site, it will continue again and again.
Now, there are many similar sites in Japan, so they are struggling how to differentiate from others: provide coupons, launch various campaigns, etc. But they are almost same from the view point of feature and business style.
When the creative viral-marketing appears, someone imitates its idea immediately. Therefore, I think how to prevent imitation, how to keep originality, and how to differentiate from others are important.

I already am a captive of a viral marketing?

I checked the definition of Viral Marketing through the Internet. To think about this kind of marketing resort, maybe the approach vary depend on target products.

In Japan, there are some kinds of viral marketing. I sometimes recieve viral e-mail, but I have usually ignored them because I feel the information is not so important. So far, I think viral marketing is not popular or not a successful way in Japan. However, I realized one notable example. The company is Mixi which provide SNS( Social Networking Sevice) such as facebook or MYSpace. Mixi surely is the most famous SNS, which attracts widespread popularity. One important feature of it is that new applicants can register only when be invited by exsisting users. For me, most impressive issue is this "introduction system" which means there are no suspicious users. Also, it encourages the awareness of human relationship( friends' friends could be my friends?). Nowadays, users can access this site through PC and mobile phones, and they enjoy daily communication by updating their own diaries, belonging to specific communities or finding friends.

Mixi is free in charge, most of its income are advertizing revenue. Therefore, increasing users does not affect their profit, but it transpired as No.1 SNS in Japan. (Now, over 10 million users and over 200 million access per day). In this way, this company has developed quickly.

Maybe, some guys in our class, don't know Mixi.
So, if you are interested, I can invite you. Am I already taken in by Mixi's viral marketing strategy? ;)
Anyway, I think this is one of viral marketing. You guys, how do you feel?

Thanx,

Viral Marketing: eMarketing 2008 blog site??

http://iujem.blogspot.com/

I am so positive that everybody from our eMarketing class definitely know this blog. When I started figuring out about viral marketing, this blog came into my mind. I think most of the students in our class including me didn't notice before that our very smart professor of eMarketing class is practicing viral marketing for this eMarketing class blog (provided: in my opinion). Basically, we all are posting the articles with the objectives to get a high grade, yet to show that we are smart too. I'm not quite sure if the rest of us agree with me, but still I personally think this is also one way of viral marketing.

Since a lot of sutents already mentioned the definition of viral marketing, I understand it as making your website or company famous by the word of mouth or by social networking. Let me give you an example of our eMarketing blog site. We are posting articles every week. Gradually, we are spreading about that blog to our friends and make them see perhaps. In such a way eMarketing blog is getting awareness from IUJ students. Later on, even when we graduate and leave IUJ, we would keep this blog in mind and we sometimes would come visit this website, and even talk about that to our family members, colleages and the people who work alongside with us. By doing so, we are exercising viral marketing to make this blog popular among our social community.

To sum up, I believe that viral marketing could be in several different ways even sometimes we couldn't realize about that. Even some professors in IUJ are using viral marketing technique, and I personally think it is one of the best ways to make our product successful.

Web 2.0 and Viral Marketing

Everybody knows we are now in the world of Web 2.0. Wiki, Blogs, Mashups, Social Networking, Podcasting, RSS, Widgets are growing day by day. According to Forrester research on “Global Enterprise Web 2.0 Market Forecast”, enterprise will spend $4.6 billion on Web 2.0 technologies by 2013.

From the book “Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide” written by Amy Shuen, there are five-step action plan for applying Web 2.0 technologies business models: build on collective user value, activate network effects, work through social networks, dynamically syndicate competence and recombine innovations. In fact, Social networks can help us our business reaching more audience by building our community. But there are many questions we have to ask how to work through social networks.

In the book, the author gave an example of success of through viral marketing. “One extra line at the end of each Hotmail—"Get your private, free email at
http://www.hotmail.com"

Other interesting stories are traffic generation of small number of web sites like Yahoo!, MySpace, YouTube, Wikipedia, and Digg through viral marketing.
We should not also forget about LinkedIn, Facebook and their success.

I may be writing about tech and hype but we always have to explore fundamental concepts behind these technologies and how to apply them.

Car+Matchbox+Marketing = ?

What would be the first thing that comes in your mind when you read the above title? It would probably be about the marketing program for this miniature toy that many of us (especially the boys) are familiar with:

Maybe. But rather, consider this viral marketing campaign in 2007 by Ford Malaysia in light of their Ford Ranger line. The truck boasts an extendable bed for extra cargo. Now, how and what would be an excellent way to reach its target consumers - mainly consisting of people are loosely related to construction, manual labor, transportation, field workers etc. Most of these workers tend to smoke and drink.

So Ford came out with an innovative viral marketing tool which was distributed in pubs and bars:
  1. Captured the intended audience
  2. Delivered the message precisely and cleverly
What were the results? More than 1,600 people have visited Ford with about 450 booked a test drive. All cars of the limited edition of Ranger Extreme were sold out a month ahead of its expected sales schedule.

Here is what they did:

detik.com - personal experience on viral marketing

Back to the time around 2001, I remembered when my friend told me about a very famous Indonesian news website that provides very (very) latest news, namely detik.com ("detik" means second). The website updates its content oftenly, even in term of seconds/minutes for breaking-through news. For example during the tsunami in Asia, the website updates the contents almost every minutes from its writers who wrote the news directly from the disaster areas.

Till now, due to of its fame, a lot of important advertising (ads) on its webpage, from an international to local events ads, or from a multinational to local company's ads. I got some useful information that relates to my interests from the website though.

Several times, I also told some other friends about the website when they asked me about good website on Indonesian news. It's just a good example of virtual marketing that I myself experienced on.

Viral marketing to the user?

Today's users have become an integrated part of the information flow. They use their power to dismiss irrelevant and interruptive ads. In the era of applying IT and ICT in mas media, "you" the consumer has become a user. The users are the most powerful one in the market. No big suppliers can be able to control the market and advertising environment. It is the users to decide what to watch, when, where and for how long ... giving them the power to make or break any new product or brand.
Therefore, to become a successful marketer you need to understand the users. And viral marketing should be created for the interest of the viewers. Emails ads should only be sent to the people having interest and want to be in the list of email receivers). It will be an ineffective way to send emails wide-spreadly with no care of who are the receivers. So these are certainly be considered as spam emails. Those spam emails will normally annoy the viewers and leave a bad impression on the audience 's mind about your brand and company. Just imagine, everyday you unexpectedly receive hundreds of spam emails during a busy and hard-working day, how you will be frustrated and tired. You then will immediately throw them to rubbish. What a bad results for any ads!
In my country Vietnam, there are several internet service suppliers who provide ads through emails in the way that they collect email address (up to thousands, hundreds of thousands) and sell this database or deliver ad unprofessional way; bad in design, no good content, no impression but give the user no choice to decline the ads. They will possibly continue to be sent that kind of emails.
In the view of the user, I agree with this saying of viral marketing that “For marketers, big ears are more useful than big mouths these days.”
Below is the famous brand name in Vietnam "Moment coffee" with viral marketing

Multi-level Marketing - a bright child of Viral marketing or Just a cheat? Pespective from the case of Tahitian Noni Juice.

Phuong Thao iujem.blogspot.com さんは書きました...
Hi all,I see a number of nice examples about viral marketing in different countries. In Vietnam, we also have many excellent cases making use of viral marketing for their business. However, still there's gap in applying these ways of marketing in real, (espeially multi-level marketing) which is regarded as a cheat in my country. The Government even issued the law to prohibit multi-level marketing and selling. So far as I know, this way of marketing is also banned in China and several other countries. As I see Larry has some info about this, plz share more...I will take Tahitian Noni Juice as an example. If you have checked the info of this company on websitehttp://www.tahitiannoni.com/united_states/english/retail/index.html...So great, isnt it?Tahitan Noni is a kind of fruit juice, thus when is is imported to several countries like Canada, Vietnam, Thailand...its image is regarded as MAGIC JUICE which can heal and treat all kinds of deaseases. For women and men, it is the best to keep healthy and beauty. So the price is sky craper...30 times higher than the import cost. who dare to buy??? this company use the viral marketing, ask family and friends buy and use the products and tell the Magic story to others. By attrating more and more people... a network established. Each person becomes a DISTRIBUTOR with so beautiful commission.Plz take a look:http://noninumber1.com/?ahuyweb=content&id_cat=10The story seems never end, and still magic unless there're the fact that there are more and more people find out the normal effect of Noni and there's increasing number of people lost money. It's so pity caused the friends and relatives suffer from this...From my point of view, this kind of marketing is so creative. However, in actual condition, how to apply and get good effects is another story.

Viral Marketing - Value Proposition

I would like to share my experienced that every year I received an email from a friend regarding festival season Television Commercials (TVCs) done by Petronas - A leading Petroleum company from my home country. Every year and every festive season this company will come out with TVCs that fulled with various messages such unity, integrity, sincerity, loyalty, mutual respect and many more. Their TVCs has received several ads awards.

Petronas was a leading Petroleum company in my home country, therefore indirectly this TVCs has influenced me to stick loyal to their brand. I use all their petroleum products in my daily life such as vehicle gasoline, cooking gasoline and vehicle related products.

Beside using word of mouth to tell others about this TVCs, in their website there's a button for us to send notification to other friends to share the video after we watched it. Thus people may send it to as many people they need. Therefore the message passed through out the nation rapidly.

People may touched with the messages in the video. They will also think of Petronas and start to use their products.. (like me..) It cool right...

One way of Viral Marketing?

I think everybody has received forwarded mails. They may be for your personal dealing and also for other purposes. The second may be sometimes information for fashion, funny movies, events, sayings, tips for shopping, travelling and health care and so on. As for me, I read some interesting mails and passed along to others but rarely did. For those who are interested in others, they may response in different ways.

After I have read about viral marketing, I came to know that this can be a kind of marketing tool. In my country, there are a few organizations practicing viral marketing. One organization Distilled which website address is www.distilled.co.uk, did viral marketing campaign to get ideas and more fund by means of creating competition for his Price Per Click tools (PPT) and set criteria to include about Myanmar Cyclone. At that time, cyclone hit Myanmar was very severe and very famous around the world. So, Distilled knew it to be applied in its campaign with two objectives. The more people compete, the more idea and fund would get. I think people who were interested in it, definitely they would do. So, viral marketing can be in different forms and used for business and non-profit purpose.
Personally, I am pleased with Distilled.

A thought on Viral Marketing- Bangladesh and China.

No doubt people are becoming frustrated and even as close as getting sick from TV ads and the continuos flooding of emails with Junks. An analogy would be receiving so many emails at the Iujmail acount (300 EMAILS IN 30 DAYS) folder that I atlast decided to stop peeking at them. They distract you from your original purpose and intention-basically they add to your pain than gain. What I want to add here is when a certain consumer product has a visible and strong value proposition and it does what it is suppose to do or even surpasses your expectation. The next step people would do, naturally, is pass it by "word-of-mouth". I am a living example to this testament. I once was bombarded with ads by some unknown online cloth retailer. I curiously clicked it and found out that the site was pretty good. www.vancle.com My first purchase from this site as an experiment was a polo T-shirt. A risk minimizing factor, I though,t but after I've tried it on I felt that it offered more than its value. From then onwards I made more purchase from Trousers to right beneath the undergarments. I've even voluntarily passed the companies product URL to anyone who made any online purchase. They all agreed with me that the company have a good depth of product and their price is competitive.

What Vancl are offering is Formal/Casual retail clothing targeting white collar people. And they have succeeded in their goals. Around 30% of Beijing white color population especially men purchase from this site and 10% housewives to their husbands. That is because #1 Free Deliver upto 25kms radius, #2 Good packaging-brings in a feel good factor when you receive it #3 Good quaility of the product #4 a competitive price #5 product mix and differention.

I wish Viral Marketing could play another form at IUJ say for example "Viral Class Schedule". A student gets infected in the class through lectures and he/she personally gives us reminder about homework deadlines and class updates. How many of you ever thought of this personalised class schedule reminder? By phone or human interaction? You could choose your delivery options. I believe we are not far from this idea. Just need a littttllle bit of time for us to accept this revolutionary viral approach.

Anyway back to where I was.Bangladesh internet industry is still at its nascent stage. Information about a new product entrant or even existing local ads don't get to the level of internet dissemanition. The one force that makes consumers buy things is pure, raw TV advertisements. Even then there are lot of get rich scheme activities-where they effeciently employ viral marketing techniques. It's called Multi-level marketing (MLM), also known as Network Marketing, is a business-distribution model that allows a parent company to market its products directly to consumers by means of relationship referrals and direct selling.

Independent, unsalaried salespeople of multi-level marketing, referred to as distributors (or associates, independent business owners, dealers, franchise owners, sales consultants, consultants, independent agents, etc.), represent the parent company and are awarded a commission based upon the volume of product sold through each of their independent businesses (organizations).

Independent distributors develop their organizations by either building an active customer base, who buy direct from the parent company, or by recruiting a downline of independent distributors who also build a customer base, thereby expanding the overall organization. Additionally, distributors can also earn a profit by retailing products they purchased from the parent company at wholesale price.

Viral Marketing

My people,
Basically, viral marketing is getting people to start talking about your website/company. From an offline sense, it is called “word of mouth marketing”
People will spread information about your company/website very fast like a virus attack.
Basically it comes down to building interest. You want people to mention it on their blogs, on their websites, to friends etc. In short, you want your readers to also be your marketing force. To make this happen, you have to understand that viral marketing is not just about what you provide on your website or how it helps people (or even the value) – it’s about the experience. If you can create a powerful, compelling user experience around your websitethat attracts your target market and if you make it exceedingly simple for your customers and readers to spread the word, you will have a situation where your customers market your website and do it far more effectively to their friends and their contacts than you ever could.
Viral marketing is similar to networking and affiliate marketing because it forces you to build a positive experience (to over deliver) – and in the process you’re forced to be creative and improve your website (that is, you need to market your website effectively causes you to create a better website). One of the easiest gimmicks to use for viral marketing is to offer something for free on your website/blog. People LOVE free stuff – reports, newsletters, tools – you name it, marketers have used the “free” hook to establish a foothold in all markets. The best free stuff is something that has never been offered before, going way beyond the call of duty and giving away a HUGE amount of value for free.

For example http://www.dominos.com/home/index.jsp
I know you will enjoy it. After, I will like you to tell me your experience.
If Your experience is good, then Viral Market the site. Ha-ha.
If you need some, I have some in SD3. Micro wave.

Viral marketing campaign example in Mongolia (MN)

www.gogo.mn is one of the most popular web portals in Mongolia. It belongs to the mobile operator company Mobicom Corporation, where I work. Gogo.mn offers various features and services like ringtones, mobile games, contents to download, file sharing, sms sending, web email, and etc. which are available for Mongolian language speaking users all around the world free of charge. For example, customers are able to send free 5 SMS to Mobicom users by signing up for free web email service at mail.gogo.mn. Mobicom's customers are also able to send SMS responses to their email address. And every time when mail users receive SMS response, they get promoted by additional free SMS.
The service became very popular among all Mongolians who reside outside of the country as well as among teenagers. In my point of view, this free SMS service brings following benefits to the company:
- Viral promotions: both network and word-of-mouth
- Related to the previous effect, it attracts new customers
- Generates additional SMS traffic
My people Good morning,
From our last class, I found out that we need to back any of our marketing or business plan with number s and figures.
Show how we arrive at our figures because in the real world of business, this is very vital.
The person/group we presenting our plans or proposal are really looking out for the figures and your projections with figures. The figures will go a long way in backing our plans or proposal.
For example, there is this programme in my country called the Dragons Den. In this reality TV show, aspiring entrepreneurs are opportune to face a panel of Five successful businessmen and women Known as the “Dragons” and present their business ideas to secure outright investment.
I now depend on the aspiring entrepreneurs to defend their case very well. The Dragons are ready to invest millions each in the business provide the figures and plan is convincing.
The major problem people face in the Dragons Den is to convince them with their figures and clear plans.
For more go to:
http://www.dragonsdennigeria.com/
My question to you all is Can you get the Money out of the Dragons?

Marketing plan: be a marketer or scientist?

The author, Tim Berry, discuses how to integrate your marketing analysis in to your business plan. He emphasizes that you must keep it clear and concise. The message to us here, I believe, is that in the business world there is no room for none sense work. So, get to the point and get the job done! His comment assert Pro. Sugai's claim that most executives will not read further shall they find your executive summary a dud.

Furthermore, I believe it should be well targeted.  If you are submitting to get the loan make sure you address what the bank want to see (break-even point and how fast your can pay off the loan.)  As we learn in class, numbers don't lie! I think, marketing analysis report is just another product. We need to actually apply marketing concept to sell our hard work report. This means that we need to know our audience, know how to present the main benefit of our report,  and be adaptive. The ultimate goal is to get our ideas executed. To do so, it should be first attract executive eyes.

So, what do you think about "marketing analysis report". Should we see it as normal business report or we better look at it as a "Product"?

Raditya Dika "Indonesian funniest young writer / blogger"

Hey all,

I got this idea after mybrother was telling me how hillarious the new book by Raditya Dika that he read.

Let me introduce you to Raditya Dika, he is an Indonesian young writer / blogger. He is most likely to be popular amongst high school - university students. He began to write a blog in 2003 in http://www.kambingjantan.com/ (unavailable since 2007); his blog was basically telling us about his daily life (nothing sophisticated) however he has unique language usage and style which was popular amongst Indonesian youngster especially in Jakarta. It was so popular that the blog was updated into a book.

Now he has four books and has new website http://radityadika.com/ , and let me tell you why this is viral marketing..Well, all of his books were published by independent, not-so-well-known publisher which limited the advertising budget for his books, hence his blog is also used as his media promotion of the books and his events. Whenever information regarding new book or event uploaded, his fans begin to spread the info among their peers..

Viral marketing is a powerful tool since it basically diminish the "sweet" words of advertisement since it is communicated from someone you already know (friends, families)

My Favorite Viral Marketing: Hi5

Alright, I am sure most of you (or maybe all of you) already know Hi5. Let me just

http://www.hi5.com/

Hi5 was created in the year of 2003. However, Hi5 just began to boom heavily in Thailand around the end of 2007 by only 1 sole reason. It has Thai version. As far as I know, more than half of Thai youngsters could not understand and communicate in English properly. This is why Hi5 has never been in young teenagers' mind until it came up with Thai version last year. And since then, Hi5 has been a big talk of the town among teenagers since it is the first SNS website available at that time.

I don't think I need to explain how Hi5 is a viral marketing, but I just have to tell you all first that I used to like Hi5 because it existed before Facebook, but now I just hate Hi5 and love Facebook a lot more. But here is the funny thing that I like about Hi5.

One of my friends in Thailand came up to me early this year and told me "Draft, you have Hi5 yet? Everyone is playing now man, you should also get one." I laughed softly and replied "Hey, I have Hi5 account since 3 or 4 years ago already." He was very surprised because he has no idea Hi5 existed that long already. I also added, "And now I don't play Hi5 anymore. Facebook is far better than Hi5 man." Off course, he has no idea what Facebook is, lol.

One more funny fact about Thai youngsters and Hi5. They know English so little that they call Hi5 and Hi-ha (Hi as in ひ and Ha is 5 in Thai).

MedNet.com

While discussing about MedNet.com study case ....I wondering what the prof. said ...there must be such data to prove our analysis. But, in this study..there is no such data that have been given for Cholestrol.com ...so, in this case, how could we explain to Baker in order to convince her...that MedNet services still better than Cholestrol.com ?

eMarketing Inc.: 50% Art, 50% Joke

One time I was curious what Google would return me if I search with a keyword "emarketing". One of the top link I found is an interesting website of a company named eMarketing Inc (http://www.emarketinginc.com/). I opened it and found the website is uniquely cool yet funny. Anyway, I’m not going to discuss or even promote the company, but rather thinking what a cool idea of such emarketing company in designing its website.

Looking into the value proposition of the company in creating such catchy website, it could remarks a unique professionalism skill of the company in doing their emarketing or branding management works. The high profile of the company could also seen from their portfolio in the side menu such as in the “Our Works” and “Who We Work With” menu.

After watching the opening clip in the website, I remembered about the concept of 50% Science and 50% Art in the marketing. However for this company, I guess their thought of marketing would be 50% Art and 50% Joke :-D *just joking*.

Any comment?

Have a nice weekend!

- Rizki -
ps: I'm not sure if the company really looking for a new name.... if so, what a cool idea...

Google's G1 Phone versus Apple's iPhone

Google's G1 Phone, announced late last September by T-mobile and will go on sale Oct 22 in the US and UK onwards.

Now, naturally many would compare the G1 to its nearest counterpart - obviously none other than the iPhone.

As reported by the Telegraph.co.uk:

"The phone, known as the G1, will be available on the T-Mobile network in the UK from November. It will cost $179 in the US, but is likely to be available for free on some contracts in the UK. The G1 phone runs Android, an operating system that is designed to bring the desktop computing experience to mobile devices, by allowing people to surf the internet and carry out everyday tasks on the move. The G1 gives one-touch access to popular Google online services, such as its email service, Gmail, the video-sharing website YouTube, instant-messaging via Google Talk, and its maps service, Google Maps. Users can instantly share photos taken on the three megapixel camera, and post them to the web. Google Maps includes Street View, which overlays roads with real-world street-level photographs.

The G1 is the first phone to have a compass built into it in addition to motion-sensing technology, meaning users can navigate using Google Maps just by rotating the phone in their hand. The phone has a 3.2in touchscreen, like Apple’s hugely popular iPhone, as well as a slide-out Qwerty keyboard. It offers high-speed internet access via the 3G phone network, as well as via Wi-Fi. US users of the G1 will have one-click access to Amazon MP3, a music download service, expected to be launched in the UK later this year. The G1 comes with 2GB of memory built into the device, which is enough to store up to 500 songs, but this can be expanded to 8GB using an additional memory card. The launch of the "Google phone", which is made by the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, will pit Google in direct competition with the likes of Apple, makers of the iPhone, as well as RIM, who produce the popular BlackBerry mobile email device.

The G1 will also compete with other existing mobile phone operating systems, such as Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, and Symbian, which is widely used by Nokia, the world’s biggest mobile phone maker. Owners of the G1 will be able to download additional software and programs onto their device. The Android Market will be similar to Apple’s Application Store for iPhone owners, which allows them to add extra software to their iPhones. "Because the Android platform is open, we think Android is future-proof," said Andy Rubin, Google’s senior director of mobile platforms.

Google, which already dominates the online advertising and search industries, is looking for ways to replicate its success on mobile devices. By putting its own web browser at the heart of the Android operating system, it has the potential to deliver its content and applications to a ready-made target audience.
Larry Page, Google’s co-founder, hailed the power and potential of the G1, and said it was as powerful as some of the desktop computers in use until just a few years ago. Analysts are sceptical whether the G1 can make an instant dent in the iPhone’s market dominance, but predict that the platform has plenty of future potential.
"Google is playing the long game with Android," said Geoff Blaber, an analyst with CCS Insight. "The G1 represents a promising start and Google has pockets deep enough to outspend and compete with its competitors."
"

Here is a flash movie of the G1 on the T mobile website. You can find another video about the G1 after the jump.

importance of process mapping in ERP implementation

this year, japan branch of maersk logistics starts to implement SAP as their ERP system. which initially started in copenhagen, sweden, and hongkong (as the 1st batch - in 2006)

they faced a failure in the mapping process which brings the company to a state where everything needs to be done manually for the whole year

the second batch, south east asia, also experiencing the same problem

mapping process, as the initial stage of ERP implementation should be done by coordinating both business owner and IT consultant. however, due to limitation in resources, some companies such as this one decided to use their internal resources to do all the mapping to data validating

the result, none of the business process went through smoothly. in fact, inefficiency arise everywhere. cost went up while business stranded because of these backlog issues which eventually bring the level of productivity to lower than the previous years

long run, as in today, this shipping giant industry had to lay off more than 10.000 managers, as they see this issue as the incapability of decision making

thus, to avoid this kind of tragedy in the future, we better think twice before we decide to jump into something that we only know partly

With mass media

In terms of marketing in Japan, nowadays, we can see a style. There are various kinds of trend, such as clothes, foods, lifestyles or music. Seemingly, it looks triumphs of nice products which fulfill consumer disire. However, there sometimes a analogy.
The analogy is "collaborate with mass media". Mass media, such as magazines and TV creates appealing slogans, or change existing words into new ones which sound sophisticated. In this way, many people are fascinated and buy the products. This method also is effective for magazines or TV because they can make them better known as "fashion maker".

One easy-to-understand example is that changing "dessert" to "sweets".
For a long time, "dessert" had been a common word, but now, many people use the word "sweets" because it sounds cute and more sophisticated for them.

So far, fashion-conscious people, mainly the young generation are impressed by magazine or TV because they are not so familliar with PC and the Internet. But near future, the Internet will be a more impressive tool as it become easier.

Marketing and advertising with Search Engine or Social Media?

Recently, I have read a book written on Marketing and Advertising Using Google. At the beginning of the book, it discusses about the history and trend of online advertising. When I start reading the book, I remember the days when I first started my online statistic portal which was full of Banner Ads. But that business was not last as the dot-com crash killed our dreams and we started to think about new online advertising business models.

In 2000, Google developed a new advertising model called Google Ad-words. It is a keyword-targeted program which shows Ads on Google search engine that are related to users' search keywords. What leads Google to launch Ad-words? It based on the result of Internet development and changing of consumer behavior. Everyday, we use Google or a search engine to search information related to our needs. So, online advertising model like Ad-words emerges.
According to the survey, it was found that search has been the primary driver of growth in online advertising and the marketing budget which goes to Internet is more than 20% compared with 15% to news paper and magazine and 12% to television. Moreover, according to Google, AdWords’ content network which includes AOL, EarthLink, HowStuffWorks, & Blogger, reaches more than 64% of Internet users over 100 countries.
Google AdWords provides mainly on cost-per-click (CPC) but it also supports cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM). One more interesting tool related to Google marketing and advertising is Adsense. It is a way of earning money for website owners by displaying relevant, unobtrusive Google AdWords. The program helps the website publishers a way to monetize and enhance page content. It is also a value-added to the site as it put together the site visitors and relevant products or services.
Google made a success story in online advertising and eveyone wants to take after Google. But, will Google advertising model continue to be the first position? Yesterday, I read the news about MyAds from MySpace. New model in online advertising may be coming soon.

We have to wait and see.
Is the future of Online Advertising will be on Search Engine or Social Networking?

Writing a Business Plan - Business Concept and Value Proposition

What makes your company unique?
From Daniel Richards, for About.com

It is crucial that your business plan states your business concept and value proposition. Since this part of the business plan follows the executive summary and company history, readers already should have a general idea of your company. The business concept, however, comprises your vision of the company, explaining the value your product or service will bring to the customer, why you are especially qualified to offer it, as well describing your offering's uniqueness and growth potential.

This in turn enables you, as well as interested parties and potential investors to research and analyze the concept for feasibility, both from a market and financial perspective.

The Feasibility Test

Think of a feasibility test as a reality check for your big idea. According to Entrepreneurship For Dummies by Kathleen Allen, a feasibility test weighs the validity of your business concept by examining four points:
The product your firm will offer
The customer you will target
Your value proposition
How you will get the product to its intended users
By this stage you should have a firm grasp on what product or service you intend to offer, as well as who you believe will be your primary customer. The final item requires weighing various distribution channels, but, again, should be answerable with a little leg work.

The Value Proposition

In essence, your value proposition is what makes customers choose you, instead of the competition. It's part marketing, part operations and part strategy.

On a subconscious level, customers will compare the value proposition of your company against those of your competitors when deciding where to take their business. With that in mind, a few things to remember when writing your value proposition:
Keep it short and uncluttered. Your value proposition explains why customers should buy from you. If you can't sum it up in 10 words or less, chances are you won't be able to execute it, either.
Be precise. Your customers have specific needs; your value proposition should offer targeted solutions
This is about your customer, not you. Your value proposition should discuss only what matters to your customers and the value you can bring to them.
Value comes in numerous forms. Money, time, convenience and superior service are a few of the ways you can help deliver value to your customers.
Distribution Strategy

The last part of the business concept is how you will deliver your product to your customers. There are several factors to consider when plotting your distribution strategy:
Will you set up a brick-and-mortar shop or office, sell online or both?
What unique obstacles exist for your company in these two different channels?
If your company sells a product, will you have the space to keep enough inventory on hand, or will customers have to agree to waiting periods?
Can you strike exclusive deals with any particular distributor or retailer? Do your competitors have any such deals that hinder your operation?
Remember, vision is important if your business is going to grow. The more focused your business concept is, the greater the likelihood that you'll attract investors and customers.
Customer Value Propositions in Business Markets
“Persuading your customers to pay premium prices can start with customer value propositions”
Your customers—pressured to control costs—seem to care only about price. But if you lower prices to stimulate sales, your profits shrink.
Now the big question is, “so how can you persuade your business customers to pay the premium prices your offerings deserve?” The Big answer is Craft a compelling customer value proposition.
What is still saying is that price offered by your competitors is not the problem; the customer looking for lower price is not the issue, the big issue as I said is the Value you are offering to the customers.
If you are not read to offer value to your customer, then stop complaining. The customers want to know the reason of paying such amount. Are you ready to answer the question “why”? Then, if you are ready,
Create value for your customers. And explain how the value will translate into monetary worth for customers.
Another big issue is how can I craft a compelling customer value propositions? My brother it is not easy but you have to think.
First of all you have to understand your Customers’ Businesses. Invest time and effort to understand your customers’ businesses and identify their unique requirements and preferences. After you have identified your customers’ problem, then create solution for solving their problem.
The solution to their need is the “value” After value creation you need to do the followings-
Substantiate Your Value Claims
Document Value Delivered
Make Customer Value Proposition a Central Business Skill

For example, Harvard Business School knew that what their customers’ (students) need are connections, Good Jobs, top-level business professionals eager to lend them support during and after graduation, and also to develop a capacity for analysis, assessment and judgment.
The created and sustained these values proposition, that why the customers (students) pay up to 8 million yen for these value.

My people,
Money is not the problem; price is the issue but the big issue is “customer value propositions”

Why Isn’t Facebook Making More Money? (Article by Scott Carp)

How many of you guys that does not have a facebook account. Facebook has become one trend in social networking. But after having 100 million users the company's revenue are "only" USD 300 million. Scott Carp in his article compared Google and Facebook, since both of websites are free, their source of income would be from the advertisement. The right value proposition for the advertising would generate more cash to Google or Facebook.

Let us take a look at both advertisement word :
Google says:
Reach people actively looking for information about your products and services online
Facebook says:
Promote your website or Facebook Page with highly-targeted advertising. Make your ads even more effective by attaching them to News Feed stories about the users' friends. Receive detailed analytics and reporting through Facebook Insights

In Google's the ads are reaching the people who are searching for it. For example, you are googling for Computer and there are several ads came up next to the search result. There will be high possibility that users will click on the ads. This match the value for advertiser and also the user. Hence Google has benefited from its value proposition to the advertiser.

Facebook, in the other hand, there is a gap between advertiser value and user value. The facebook users most likely do not care if they could find an ad in their friend's newsfeed. It is just not what the users are really looking for when they are using Facebook.

Well, in the web, until now, the best way to align the advertiser value and user value is via search engine...

What do you think??

G-Marketing

Ever heard of Guerilla marketing? (If not you better Google for it or at least click on the hyperlink). This posting will highlight one such example of guerilla marketing (aka G-Marketing). These days gaming is one of the most profitable industries in software development. Below are two examples of how games are being used as a marketing medium.

1, In this article 'Playing along' from the Economist(one of my favourite magazines) there are several examples of how games are boosting music sales for some artists. Not just new bands but even popular and established artists like Aerosmith use this medium.

2, Another field in which gaming is used as a marketing medium is Politics!. Recently I read an article in gigaom.com, where there was an article about Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama campaigning on Xbox 360. According to the Economist you can even' ... register to vote in the presidential election and to participate in opinion polls and online forums'. (this article gives a good introduction to understand how gaming is used for business)

What do you guys think? Will this trend continue or is it just a fad ?
Ebiz life make us some stress??, these kind of techniques may help us...

Think about the times in your life when you've felt stress: maybe while giving a presentation at work, worrying about your children, racing to meet a deadline or arguing with your spouse. Remember how your heart was pounding and you were breathing harder? People with heart failure need to avoid that kind of physical response to stress. Emotional stress and anxiety make the heart work harder, which can make symptoms worse. That's why patients and their caregivers should work together to keep stress under control.
  • try to wear clothing that allows good blood flow. Avoid tight socks or stockings (like thigh-high or knee-high hose); they can slow blood flow to the legs and cause clots.
  • Avoid temperature extremes as much as possible, too. When it's too hot or too cold, your body works harder to maintain a normal temperature
  • Talk with family, friends, clergy or other trusted advisers about your concerns and stresses and ask for their support.
  • Take 15 to 20 minutes a day to sit quietly, breathe deeply and think of a peaceful scene.
  • Learn to accept things you can't change. You don't have to solve all of life's problems.
  • Count to 10 before answering or responding when you feel angry.
  • Don't use smoking, drinking, overeating, drugs or caffeine to cope with stress. These make things worse.
  • Look for the good in situations instead of the bad.
  • Exercise regularly. Do something you enjoy, like walking, swimming, jogging, golfing, walking a pet, tai chi or cycling. Check with your doctor to determine what activity level is right for you.
  • Think ahead about what may upset you and try to avoid it. For example, spend less time with people who bother you. If you're still working or volunteering, cut back on your hours and adjust your schedule to avoid driving in rush-hour traffic.
  • Plan productive solutions to problems. For example, talk with your neighbor if the dog next door bothers you, and set clear limits on how much you'll do for family members.
  • Learn to say no. Don't promise too much. Give yourself enough time to get things done.
  • Join a support group ... maybe for people with heart disease, for women, for men, for retired persons, or some other group with which you identify.
  • Seek out a mental health professional or counselor if you can't cope on your own. Helping people is their specialty. Ask your doctor, family or friends for recommendations. If they can't help, ask your spiritual leader or a hospital social worker for some names.

Your personality and YOU (Sarah Splaver)

The brain is tangible. It consists of masses of nerve tissues, the vast bulk of which is housed within the skill. The mind however is intangible. The mind is made up all your mental processes - your thoughts, your reasoning your imagination your feelings your attitudes your memories your dreams your perceptions your motivations and all of your other varied mental activities and all of your controls which you consciously or unconsciously exercise over these mental processes.

It is most important that you establish the habit of going steady with study.
Learning requires effort. Regular periodic.
Learning requires reinforcement. To learn to acquire knowledge to remember we must strengthen these synaptic connections. This strength comes from reinforcement through regular study sessions.
Lasting learning, the kind of learning which will stay with you for many years is the result of proper periodic studying.
School is learning not just for the taking and passing of tests.
Planning is foundation of proper study habits.

There are number of different mental abilities. Of special concern to you for educational and career planning purposes are the six primary mental abilities.
1. Verbal comprehension ability: is the power to grasp the meaning of what you hear and what you read
2. Word fluency ability: if you are superior word fluency ability you are able to express yourself readily and skillfully in writing and speaking.

The Future of eValue

A former student of mine just sent me a link to this great article outlining the advice given to Sequoia Capital's portfolio companies. Please read through and spend some time exploring the PPT presentation at the bottom of this page.

Eureka !

Adding myself as a contributor has been of the most demanding tasks in this blogging project. I wonder if Prof. Sugai meant it to be that way (an online extension of our scavenger hunt!)

To those of you who are still lost in the maze I hope this helps. I kept getting error : bX-b0uqh3.

You could google for 'bX-bouqh3' and figure out how to login. (It didn't work for me).

Here is what I did: (Iam assuming you already have a gmail or google account)

1, Try Yahoo's babelfish ( http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ ). Copy paste the link Prof. Sugai sent to our email a/c's. After that you will prompted to key-in your google username, id, screen name and etc... key-in all those details. Finally the most important step...PRAY that your efforts are successful.

2, Hopefully if your prayer was accepted you should be able to see your dashboard. When you want to change your dashboard settings to English language follow the instructions in this blog. This shouldn't take you long. I can help you with this step if your not successful.

Selling to the Cxo: Building a Rock Solid, Irresistable, Powerful Value Proposition.

Selling to the Cxo: Building a Rock Solid, Irresistable, Powerful Value Proposition.

By Adams, Daniel J.

The article defines value proposition in salemen's perspective. It shows how to build a powerful selling message to capture senior executives attention.

The five components of rock-solid value proposition includes the promise, the enablers, the unfair advantage, the justification of value and the proof.

The Promise: "How Can You Help Me?"

The Enablers: "What Are The Arsenal Of Services, Technologies, Products And Solutions That A How You To Make The Commitment To Me"

The Unfair Advantage: "What Makes You Different Than Your Competition?"

The Justification of Value: "Specifically Why Should I Invest More For Your Offering Than The Competition?"
The Proof: "I Do Not Believe You, Prove It" Good Luck, and Close "Em!

We can also put this in simple way. First, we seek to understand customer problems. Then, find out how our solutions solve their problems and meet their needs. At the same time, we can use SWOT to analyze POD, POP, POC and identify the point that make our product or services stand out from the competitor. To be effective, we should be able to justify our value. To convince them, I think we need a good product that can really do what we claim otherwise sooner or later customer will find out. Finally, to proof our value, we need show our commitment which therefore create outside value other than the product itself which is recommended in my previous posting article called Value Proposition That Works

Value Proposition - Does Yours Help or Hurt?

Hi classmates

I found this articles titled "Value Proposition - Does Yours Help or Hurt?" written by Debra Murphy, Vista Consulting. I adapted the articles in this post.

The author said that if the value proposition can't be clearly defined company, it will be more difficult to sell your product or service.

The author also quote that no value proposition is better than an ineffective one. This article also said that many Web sites have entire pages dedicated to their “Value Proposition”. What most of these describe is why that company is wonderful, not how they help you solve your business challenges.

Finally the author give some tips before developing Value Proposition.

First, answer the following questions:

  1. What does my target audience want and why? What does my customer value the most?
  2. What are our core competencies and capabilities?
  3. What are the core competencies and capabilities of our competitors?

After answering these questions, we can start developing the value proposition statement and tailor a message that addresses target customer needs and make it unique to in the competition market.
