ADs on UNIQLO T-Shirts

In Q4 in Air France case, we needed to find partners to acquire target customer.
This question was little bit hard for me..

Anyway, this time, I would like to introduce one of big success of corporate collaboration, which is UNIQLO. UNIQLO has been collaborating with more than 620 companies and offering T-shirts with the companies logo, design and mascot. Industries of the companies are really diversified. For example, Beer, Sweets, Automobile, Historical Japanese Sake, Cosmetics, Consumer Electronics companies have collaborated with UNIQLO. Now, UNIQLO is offering the T-shirts to 12 countries and over 200 foreign branches.

The main purpose of the companies which is collaborating with UNIQLO is Advertising.

Now, UNIQLO is mainly focusing on Asian market. Therefore, for companies which are also focusing on Asian market, the collaboration with UNIQLO is really good opportunity to promote their Brand Name there in terms of cost (and efficiency maybe).

I hope our team could propose this kind of good opportunities to Air France.

Father dog

We were known the "Pets.com" in last week. There is the puppet dog in its CM. Professor said that the puppet dog is very famous in United State.

In fact, there is famous dog in Japan too. It is the white dog which appears in Softbank mobile's CM.
In this CM, the short story of a fictitious family called "Shirato family" is very popular.

In a strange setup, its father is a dog. Now, most citizen in Japan knows its family and father dog.
Softbank has increased the number of contractors 60% or more from 2007 to 2012.

I think that it can be said that the good image of a company also influences corporate earnings greatly.

Samsung's Marketing

This is the commercial that I was impressed so much. It is a Thai's commercial for the Samsung Galaxy Tab7.7 that had been launched for about 7 months ago. The Galaxy firms had produced the short romantic movie for the Galaxy Tab7.7. Within the commercial, the story will tell all the features of the devices and this will never get bored to the customers. In the contrast, it will entertain the customer and they will easily learn all the functional of the device through the movie. First, the commercial had launched the commercial out episode by episode, so that the customers have to continue and track the commercial for every week like a drama series.

The man you like to hate

This is another commercial video for Bangkok Life Insurance.
It was about a insurance salesman who tried to sale the insurance
by using outbound marketing strategy for example, door-to-door and cold calling.

In Thailand, people do not like insurance salesman as they view that
those insurance people are trying to persuade and covey
them to buy the insurance which is very annoying.

In this commercial video, it represented insurance salesman as a cockroach
which people are scared and do not want to talk with.

In the end, the salesman tried to use inbound marketing strategy instead of the old traditional strategy, and he succeeded.

Search Engine Marketing in China: Baidu vs. Google

Baidu is the biggest Chinese search engine. Apparently, it should have great advantage over Google on Chinese search engine marketing, especially after Google crisis of withdrawing from mainland China in 2010. Though Google still services to mainland China, it actually closed the server in China and use "google.com.hk" to replace the original domain name "google.cn" and "g.cn". This event is really a great blow to Google China; And Baidu, though does't involved directly in it, it was indeed a beneficiary of this event from the results. Otherwise, to Chinese internet users, Baidu is generally more familiar and more in line with Chinese' searching habits.
Even though Baidu have better customer base and geographical advantages, it still didn't show great advantage on Search Engine Marketing. It can be due to the inaccuray of ads conversion and high rate of fraudulent advertising. While on the other hand, Google shows high accuray in ads conversion and more concise page structure which led to the longer time of users stayed on the page.
Therefore, the preference of companies in SEM campaign choosing is not so favorable to Baidu as it showed in customer base.

Learning from Air France case study

Marketing analyses can be going with different results, I learned from our “Air France” case that different analysis could lead to different conclusions. Instead of explained with a long word, I will giving brief example that I hope provide us with clear understanding.
Suppose that Search Engine Optimization (SOE) Company want to analysis the effectiveness of Google Company as Search Engine Machine (SEM),then SOE  Company can have 2 different approaches from the same data they collected. For instance the effective of SEM data as below:

On table 1 we can see that Google are effectively drive 60.22% of potential customers, while in table 2, the analysis on calculating the average of effectiveness is talking in different way. Trying to interpreted table 2, we have conclusion that on average, SEO Company’s campaigns in Google are success leading potential customers around 46.56%.  Thus table 1 is talking about Google as whole SEM performance, but table 2 is talking about SEO Company's Campaign effectiveness when they deal with Google.

Therefore different approaches of analyses may lead to different conclusion; Prof. Sugai mentioned before in our class that marketing is made not only scientific but it needs also art as an ingredient inside it, so data/information is just statistic, how you treat them is the most important part. In the end, you as marketer that must decide which analytic approach you should use.

B2B acquisition example

Metasearchers like Kayak, Priceline are probably the most famous B2B acquirers for travel industry.
Those value preposition is offering the cheapest way to fly and stay.

But do you think the price is the most important thing when you choose the flight or accommodation?

I don't, that's why I think the TripAdvisor is the better example for B2B acquisition.

My favorite source of reviewing the hotels and places, additionally you can check and book through Booking.com, Expedia.com etc.

Let's agree that the quality/price ratio more proper way to search and book the place before travelling than only price.

  • Third Generation Ipad, Retire too Soon?

Within just about seven months after the third generation Ipad so called “The New Ipad” launched, Apple has suddenly released a fourth-generation model. Though people already knew that the fourth-generation Ipad would only be an update with a lightening port but actually it has the new A6X processor. This action made so many people feel so cheated by Apple.
About 45% of 2,000 U.S. Ipad owner that surveyed online felt angry about this “surprising” launch of new Ipad (Toluna QuickSurveys, 2012).
I am not sure about what Apple’s purpose in doing it and why it looks like cheating its customers. It would be ok suprising customers but cheating would be end up with the up set and disappointment of people. The worst case, it could decrease its loyal customer number in the future. I believe Apple should explain the reasons behind its action to calming down their customers’ anger.

    B2B business

Last week, I read the article of HubSpot. In the article, it is mentioned that
HubSpot business was effective B2B business since inbound marketing method was not
    utilized in the filed.

Actually, I am working in a company whose all business is for electronics makers.

In our sales activities, it is fundamental to decide key decision makers, find key problems and promote resonate value to the decision makers.
In other words, we really value the significance of face to face meeting.

Though I think that inbound marketing can be a effective way to boost sales in B2B field,
it is also important to decide target market and aim actively at the targets according to strategy with limited resources.

Currently, I understand that marketing theory should be changed according to the market we should aim at ,and I don't have the answer for me to apply this inbound marketing theory to our business field. However, I would like to keep this theory in mind when we establish new business segment.

    Onsen Monkey

One of my favorite way to spend a weekend is, going to Onsen, hot spring. I especially love Roten Buro, outside bath. And from now, autumn to winter are the best season to enjoy it.  Cold but pure atmosphere, hot but soft waters, a bit pungent but relaxing sulfur scent...awesome. As soaking yourself into the hot spring under the cold air, you can forget all of troubles (including tons of homework...) for a while. So I'd like to write about a Onsen to think about eMarketing.

The name of the Onsen is "Jigoku Dani Onsen", which means "The Valley of Hell." Maybe you don't know the name but you've heard of "Snow Monkey" or "Onsen Monkey." Jigoku Dani is known as hot spring where people can take a bath with monkeys.

In this spot, there is only one old inn named "Koraku Kan." It is not so famous and not so popular among Japanese because it is very old, inconvenient. In winter, you have to walk more than 30 minutes in the snow to get there. In addition, monkeys are not so rare for Japanese. Monkey is Monkey. So, most of guests were the people who wanted to take Onsen bath for medical purposes.

But in this ten years, it is getting popular among foreign tourists because of this site. When I stayed there 5 years ago, all of guests were coming from foreign countries, like Australia, Canada, and France, except me. They all said that they knew about the inn on the web, and that it was very famous in the some tourists' site.

Actually, I was amazed. As for me, yes, Onsen was good, atmosphere was also good, monkeys, yes interesting. But, the charge, more than 10 thousand yen, was expensive compare to its old facilities and normal foods. And the staff could not understand foreign languages. So I asked them "Isn't it expensive for you?" So young girl, she looked 20's, answered "NO, NO, the monkeys are so cute! I really want to take a bath with them! How can I do?" ...She looked crazy for me. The old guy, he was 60's, said "Yes, it's not so inexpensive, but I think it's reasonable because we (he came there with his wife) are really enjoying this exotic mood."

According to the owner of the inn, most of the guest were foreigners especially in the winter season. He said "Japanese guests are always complaining about our facilities and inconvenience, but foreign guests can enjoy them." I didn't think that all of foreign tourists think like this. But now I can understand; there are many potential guests who like this kind of taste if you look around all over the world, and Internet makes it much easier to hook those people.

    Copyrights in China

I would say, in Japan, they have a really good environment for protecting copyrights, recently I read newspaper there is new law coming out for forbidding piracy, but in China, it is completely free, every big names you could find in other countries, you could find in China.Like facebook, twiter, we have renren and microblog, nearly everything, there is another version. Well, good for the cosumers bad for the producer, is a dilemma for the government, prohibitting it, how about the huge demand, ignoring it, too much pressure from the West, still, hurts the producer finally  harm the creativity of the whole race. It is always being a controversy.

    The Surface Movement

Microsoft has released an entertaining commercial  to get people's attention "The Surface Movement", for the upcoming surface Windows 8 tablet. Videos run about 60 seconds and focusing on the folding kick stand, detachable keyboard/cover along with the sneak peek of Windows 8 OS.

The commercial is different from the previous commercial they had launched, they combines a catchy song, a dancers and some aerobatic stunts with the Surface.

Will Windows 8 tablet get people's attention ?

The best response to negativity in social media - must watch!!!!

In an attempt to increase brand awareness many companies build social media presence. Social networks enable consumers to share posts made by the product being promoted. By repeating the message, all of the users connections are able to see the message, therefore reaching more people. So social networking sites actually act as word of mouth.

But there is the other side of the coin - some users post negative comments about products. How should companies react to negative posts?

Richard Neil posted on the Bodyform's (the feminine hygene company) FB page the following (https://www.facebook.com/Bodyform/posts/10151186887359324) :

"Hi , as a man I must ask why you have lied to us for all these years . As a child I watched your advertisements with interest as to how at this wonderful time of the month that the female gets to enjoy so many things ,I felt a little jealous. I mean bike riding , rollercoasters, dancing, parachuting, why couldn't I get to enjoy this time of joy and 'blue water' and wings !! Dam my penis!! Then I got a girlfriend, was so happy and couldn't wait for this joyous adventurous time of the month to happen .....you lied !! There was no joy , no extreme sports , no blue water spilling over wings and no rocking soundtrack oh no no no. Instead I had to fight against every male urge I had to resist screaming wooaaahhhhh bodddyyyyyyfooorrrmmm bodyformed for youuuuuuu as my lady changed from the loving , gentle, normal skin coloured lady to the little girl from the exorcist with added venom and extra 360 degree head spin. Thanks for setting me up for a fall bodyform , you crafty bugger".

Bodyform's response to this snarky post is amazing:

So, if you want to acquire new customers by increasing brand awareness through social media, be prepared to come up with creative response like this. As old saying goes: "If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail".

    Week 4: Hardwarezone Singapore

    http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/

Almost every tech geek in Singapore would know this website, a community to find out the latest tech promotions in town!

According to Wikipedia, HardwareZone was started as an online magazine in August 1998 and was purchased by Singapore Press Holdings for S$7.1 million in 2006.

As many of you would know, I possess a Galaxy Tab 7.7 and I have been using this forum frequently to find out the latest information on my Galaxy Tab. (e.g. Android Ice Cream Sandwich update). What I love about this forum is that, people are actively contributing their ideas and thoughts, sharing their expertise to assist many people like me. If I'm not mistaken, most of the moderators are full-time staffs monitoring this forums.

My previous company (AllDealsAsia), had tried to make advertising post on the forums, but it was removed within 1 hour. Apparently, such postings are chargeable and we would need to pay a monthly fee for that. >_<

Hiko-nyan, a famous cat character of Hikone Castle in Japan

Hikone Castle is one of the oldest castles in Japan, and the castle is well known for its character, Hiko-nyan.
Hiko-nyan, a cat samurai character (full-bodied suits), was produced for the event in Hikone Castle in 2006.

Hiko-nyan was unpopular among tourists at first because of its strange behavior, but Hikone city hall has been sending information about Hiko-nyan with patient good humor.
Some people have taken interested in Hiko-nyan and have sent message to their friends in blogs, twitter, facebook and youtube.

Now, people come to Hikone city to watch Hiko-nyan that sometimes appears at promotional event in Hikone castle, and Hiko-nyan goods are sold in many souvenir shops. (Hiko-nyan Goods sell well ! )

I think that Hiko-nyan is one of the best marketing campaign cases in Japan.
