Hikone Castle is one of the oldest castles in Japan, and the
castle is well known for its character, Hiko-nyan.
Hiko-nyan, a cat samurai character (full-bodied suits), was
produced for the event in Hikone Castle in 2006.
Hiko-nyan was unpopular among tourists at first because of
its strange behavior, but Hikone city hall has been sending information about
Hiko-nyan with
patient good humor.
Some people have taken interested in Hiko-nyan and have
sent message to their friends in blogs, twitter, facebook and youtube.
Now, people come to Hikone city to watch Hiko-nyan that
sometimes appears at promotional event in Hikone castle, and Hiko-nyan
goods are sold in many souvenir shops. (Hiko-nyan Goods sell well ! )
I think that Hiko-nyan is one of the best marketing campaign cases in
Japan.
