Fanta AD

this is the Fanta AD in Japan, but in Taiwan have a big trend in the largest web community in Taiwan, and send to many people by mail or on facebook

Ping

Twitter in Plain English: viral marketing or...?

This is a so-called explanation video on Twitter. I find it hard to define where exactly in marketing space this video belongs to. It was created by two very cool (husband and wife) Seattle entrepreneurs Lee and Sachi LeFever who founded successful small business Common Craft.

Judge for yourself and let's talk about where this video really belongs.

3G-in rural area of Mongolia

The most challenged issues in rural areas in Mongolia are ICT infrastructure and mobile services.
Although teledensity in Mongolia has increased substantially for past ten years, there are virtually no services available outside of the soum.

Mongolian newest mobile operator GMobile is focusing moblie operation in rural areas.

It is the first mobile operator in Mongolia, which is implementing 3G CDMA 2000, advanced voice communications and high-speed data connectivity, including access to the Internet, mobile data applications and multimedia content.

Viral Marketing Immunity

Remeber how people use to trust information they see from newspaper and television? Notice how people now take them with a grain of salt, or simply tune them out completely? Marketers have turn to viral marketing as the holy grail for all their problems, numerous studies have show that VM is the most cost effective and most trusted way to promote a product or service. But isn't it too just as susceptible of being tuned out as traditional marketing? Just some food for thought http://www.ingenesist.com/general-info/what-is-viral-marketing-immunity.html

Viral Marketing campaign in Vietnam

Recently, Viral Marketing has becomes an effective marketing tool in Vietnam to make the brand awareness and WOM spread in the social communities. It may start with Close-up in late 2008. The viral marketing campaign in Vietnam is worthy especially if it targets on the youth.

Some of famous companies have been using this tool, like LaVie with "Hanh trinh ky dieu". LaVie used a website where members can play games on the website and get the prizes per month with iPod Nano and Macbook Pro in the final game (December, 2009). This website also have forum for members to discuss and make friends.

PepsiCo Vietnam is also a company which used viral marketing campaign effectively. By using website named Music Talent, they have organized many activities, like Pepsi Talent show Vietnam 2009 with thousands of Vietnamese youth. They will upload their songs, encourage their friends to listen, vote and make recommendation. Or early in 2009, they organise activity of writing Tet wish on the website which attract many members.

T-Mobile's "Life's for Sharing" campaign promoted through social media channels

I am not sure if this ad is good example of a viral marketing, but its YouTube views went through the roof after it came out in January of 2009. The ad ran on TV only for two weeks and then was being passed around by people on YouTube.
Please find the additional information about the ad here.

Education First, Promotion Second, and Sales then

The interesting method that advertiser use in this campaign in its website - radikalbebas.com is educated the visitor about free radical. The website attrack visitor to interact with them to try its services. If they satisfied they can tell their friends by reffering up to 5 people. Advertiser offer its product as one of the solution.

HP in similar way use bloggers to increase sales of th HDX Dragon notebook PC. They gave the notebook to 31 top bloggers to review it and write about it in their blogs. Only with that costs, HP boost its Dragon sales 85%, traffic to HP website increase 15%, and also got 10% total sales PC increases as the "halo effect".
Read the case study here.

Dancing with Brands, surfing new Marketing opportunities

My favorite Viral Marketing campaign?

The recent T-Mobile campaign, for sure.
The diffusion of the Video shooted in Liverpool Train Station shows how Viral Marketing and Word of Mouth could be very important Marketing tools for companies. At least to help brands spread the world.
Once again, people show that they do not want to be interrupted, but entertained.

P.S. If Viral Marketing world is still not clear in your mind, have a look of this link:
It is an effective lesson by Google.

Viral Marketing using the Popular Song "Shaheena"

In Sri Lanka a song named "Shaheena" relased by the popular singers "B&S" is used by Unilever-Sri Lanka to promote their brand "LUX". If you look carefully in this song "LUX" logo appears in the background. The popularity of the song is used to spread the brand name virally.

Dove evolution Viral

Dove shot a mini theme based clip, which showed a series of changes a female model goes through during her makeover for a photo shoot. Dove’s ‘Evolution’ video was a successful viral marketing strategy that touched many because of being clean, classy and real.

The top 10 viral marketing campaign and "skating babies" campaign

This blog has posted 10 viral marketing campaign which the author thought that they are the best of all times.
They are Tough of Gold (Nike); My heart will go on (Free Macbook Air); Guitar (GuitarMasterPro.net); Dynamite Surfing (Quicksilver); Do the test (Transport for London); Stolen Nascar (TaxBrain.com); Threshers 40% off voucher; Subservient Chicken (Burger King); Gorilla Advert (Cadbury's) and Hotmail.

In July 2009, there was a hit of viral Maketing campaign from Evian Bottle Water named "skating babies" showing the babies in diaper dancing hip-hop. This video got over 2 million hits in a morning and hope to get 20 million hits.
This campaign is the same as "water babies"-"live strong" campaign in 1998 which grasped millions of viewers. Click here for more details.

The Viral Marketing and the Voice weekly journal

In Myanmar, viral marketing is rarely used;but, the voice weekly journal used this approach
for their advertising. Although their method are not the same with in developed countries, their
approach is nearly the same.
This is journal has 0.3 million of audience per week and they used a method by spreading  of their unproved PDF version among the internet user. But,some important news are blank in this version. Most of the people think that it is a leakage from printing service, but the journal has actually make for advertising. The journal has spread more among the Myanmar around the world and most of them purchased final version after reading that .This is one issue spreading in Myanmar community. Most are spread by forward emails.

Unsuccessful viral marketing attempt

Here is the one of my favorite TV ad of Post Bank. It was considered one of best ad among the Mongolian junior and mid level managers (who have enough knowledge of English) in the banking industry and thanks Metacafe and Youtube! I hope that this ad made success to its owner!

This ad was one of the most famious anocdote when young Mongolian banking professionals meet together to drink. Even one of the commercial bank tried to copy this one but it didn’t work for Mongolian audience. Almost all TV viewers couldn’t catch the main idea and message. Initial expectation of this ad was viral marketing concept. But…it was a good lesson!

Viral marketing in Fiji

Viral marketing has yet to hit Fiji through the Internet, however, there are more mobile phone users than TV, and PC users in my country. If Viral marketing could penetrate the Mobile market through MP4 at a CHEAPER download rate, then it will be a very powerful marketing tool. But here is a type of Ad for Coca in my country. Source Youtube.2005

enjoy coca-cola!

FANCL Campaign

It seems that many cosmetic companies have a system to offer free coupons or discount to a person who introduced their products to other people. Maybe it is one of the traditional ways of viral marketing.

My favorite cosmetics company, FANCL, also has such friend introduction system.
If you introduce FANCL products to your friends who haven't used FANCL products before, your friends can get a skincare set for fee.
If your friends buy FANCL products, you and your friends both get one of the FANCL products for free, and also get 10% discount on the purchase.
This kind of system is quite common in cosmetic industry.
Viral marketing in Malaysia is gaining popularity but still it's relatively small compare to other country like in USA. I found this video that promote a website of Malaysia's best food portal and hottest restaurants.

Clinique Thailand campaign

Clinique Thailand is using the vital marketing in the recently campaign. The Clinique will give its sample or product to people who participate in the campaign by 5 ways.
1. Tell a friend
2.Comment in girls blog
3.Best blog (member's blog)
4.Face Book Fan
5.Twitter follower

I think this is a typical example of vital marketing.

www.Hi5.com (Virtal Marketing in Thailand)

Viral Marketing is simply companies using the idea that if people like the content of a media and the product or service, others will pass it on to their friends, family or customers. This is especially effective if your product complements another businesses product. They sponsor the certain media, such as a cool flash game, funny video, amusing story and such, which one may pass on to another with the company brand or logo or the products description or any other content to help promote the company or its product.
In Thailand, Virtal marketing has become a popular means of marketing and advertising because of it's very low cost. With the proliferation of spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of one person to pass the product on to others. If a person sees the name of the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and are more likely to open it.
For Example, WWW.HI5.COM is one of the viral marketing that can connect you with friends, family and can share anything with them.
Viral Marketing could be a sneaky way to get people to know about you and your company. You get them to pass your message along to others. It is implemented at a very low cost that not investing in it could very detrimental to your online business. All it takes is a great idea, a good addicting game or even a funny story. Create a gossip or a buzz; many movies are promoted by using scandals and gossips to make them more popular. Now it's your turn to put viral marketing to work for you. Act now and reap the benefits Viral Marketing will provide for you and your online business.

Top 10 market research mistakes

Market research is one of the vital components of marketing. It is one of the helpful tools to support for making decisions in the field of marketing and communications. Market research collect information about behavior, attitudes and motivation of a particular target group and can be defined as "the implementation of subjective and objective research methods, whose aim is to collect information and analyse it. However, it itself does not make decisions and it does not guarantee success due to mistakes which may happen in doing research process. I would like to introduce the article about 10 common mistakes when we do market research.

Thai ads that generate Viral Marketing.

During the beginning of this year, there are one ads campaign of Thai's cosmetic brand called "Oriental Princess" that promote the launch of their new make up line "Avatar". It was the talk of the town as TV ads is very interesting, but what more exciting is that the TV ads suggest audience to log on to their website for squeal interactive ads that pick up from TV ads. This ads became very popular amongst their target of young professional women and got them forward e-mail with link of brand's website to their friends. Based on women with horoscope and FengSui believe in 5 forces in our life, the product and ads revolved around the concept of explore your inner force whether you have Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, and Gold force in you and what can this suggest about you and your cosmetic needs.

You can find some design of their webpages www.orientalprincess.com/avatar on this poorly translated by google link over here. As this campaign site is pulled out already, so I have only this link from YouTube that allow some interaction at the end of the video. If you are woman seeing this, I bet you will click on at the end to find the result... This episode is called "Boy Freind" and it is about the situation when you had found out that your BF is cheating on you over ...... what will you choose to do?

Sorry that I can not find the one with English subtitle or details so the explanation has to be very long. But I would like to highlight this one as it was creative, yet prove that when you take into account of delivering right value to target, it works much better to get people talk about it!

I was thinking about what I should write in here this time... And all of sudden an article of Duncan Graham-Rowe came into my mind that made me to think what if robots play in main role of human life... As said in the article Instant Expert: Robots, in the world over one million robots are operating in factories for hard labour for today. And this number will surely increase in the future that robots might work as medics, bionic enhancements and soldiers etc.
The question I have for this is, when robots act like entertainers or they help people for light household work I would not comment on it, but if/when robots start working like medics or bionic enhancements as I mentioned below and what if they make a mistake in their operation. No doubt, all the responsibilities are on us/human who make the robots but persons do mistake, right.
So the question is should we develop robots as possible as much...?

Welcome to Amazon Window shop!

Amazon window shop beta version has been released here. There is no need to read "boring texts" anymore. This is a virtual shelf of Amazon's products such as books, music, and movie. Books descriptions are being read, new movies' trailers, TV shows, and video games can been seen, and new released CD's tracks can be listened to. What else do I need to make purchase decision now? I just wonder what would happen if we can transfer smell through the internet!

Technologies Revolution and Human Life

Is our life going to more dependent from technology? Britons first got the term nomophobia (no-mobile-phone-phobia), which causes anxieties when losing the cell phone or its battery died. Sounds not very serious, but this is going to be new disease, by product of technology these days. Some people even taking their phones to their grave, causing some controversies on American media. Most people don't realize how empty they feel without cell phone, it's no laughing matter. Study says nearly half the people checks their e-mail, social networks, such as Facebook or Hi5, or just surf the Internet before breakfast. Is technology taking over basic life? Do we have to own every bit of technology? HD-TV, Blue Ray, Internet and 3G phones became important part of our life. Maybe more important than we think.

The wholesaler's role in the marketing channel: disintermediation vs. reintermediation

The internet technology has enabled a company to deal with its customers directly without using wholesalers, distributors, or agent. Does it mean that internet-based electronic commerce will remove the role of wholesalers in distribution channels? What does the reality say? What should wholesalers do to solve this challenge? Find out the answer in “The wholesaler’s role in the marketing channel: disintermediation vs. reintermediation”.

Why Web 3.0 ?

Today's Web has terabytes of information available to humans, but hidden from computers. It is a paradox that information is stuck inside HTML pages, formatted in esoteric ways that are difficult for machines to process. The so called Web 3.0, which is likely to be a pre-cursor of the real semantic web, is going to change this. What we mean by 'Web 3.0' is that major web sites are going to be transformed into web services - and will effectively expose their information to the world.
The transformation will happen in one of two ways. Some web sites will follow the example of Amazon, del.icio.us and Flickr and will offer their information via a REST API. Others will try to keep their information proprietary, but it will be opened via mashups created using services like Dapper, Teqlo and Yahoo! Pipes. The net effect will be that unstructured information will give way to structured information - paving the road to more intelligent computing. In this post we will look at how this important transformation is taking place already and how it is likely to evolve.

Search Engine Marketing Strategy

Search engines have become extremely influential and powerful in their ability to funnel traffic to websites. They are fast becoming the first stop or go-to place for all information, including where customers go to learn about products and services.

There are 5 simple design characteristics making a site suitable for evaluation when search engines visits ; Page Title, Page Content, How to Find Keywords, Site Navigation, Accessible URLs. However, the most search engine marketing experts agree that the most important element of an individual webpage is the title.

Page title is the key data when search engines list results to a keyword search. The following is major concerns related to the page title.

1.Keywords: Place Keywords in Title
The keywords of title should relate to the page and to the keyword entered in search engines. In addition, keywords should be a string of words or a phrase form rather than single words form.

2. Length: Understand the Length of Page Titles
How long should the title be? It ups on the search engine. However, if the title is too long, some search engines like Google will using repeated dots (...) at the end and this leads to users cannot see the highlighted keywords in response to their search.

3. Phrasing: Title Reflects Page Content but Ease Up on Grammar Rules
Grammar and structure of title are less important when comparing to its importance within the content of the page. Grammar-correct words may take up valuable character space and more valuable keywords but ,somehow, using separator may be a space waster such as a dash " - " taking up three character spaces.

4. Individuality: Different Name for Each Page
Most of website should be considered its own unique place on the web to recognize that search engines can direct customers through a website's main page.

Here is lessons to learn Search Engine Marketing strategy.

Software competition and Software war

There are a lot of competitors against Microsoft Empire. (Software war)

As office suite of interrelated desktop applications competition, there are many competitors
against Microsoft office such as KOffice of GNU, Linux open softwares and Open Office of Sun Solaris.
In a database competition there are a lot of databases competes each other.
Oracle, RDBMS, a major presence in database computing, competes with MSSQL server.
One of the great advantage of this database is that it could run under Microsoft OS and open sources such as UNIX,Linux, Sun Solaris as well.

The two graphs above show the number of security flaws in the Oracle and Microsoft SQL
database servers that have been discovered.
Regarding to web technology there are competitors such as Microsoft ASP.NET, Ajax services, Java, Perl, PHP.

In addition, for selecting web pages, we can consider databases and web technology on that whether it is compatible with any OS, and security postures.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken a interview Startup School,He noted that the creation of Facebook, he was using the thefacebook name, and later spent hundreds of thousands of dollars it bought facebook.com.so when startup an Internet businesses, selecting the right web site is top priority.

Mobile Felica

I just would like to provide a comment as a Mobile Felica user.
I have used a Softbank mobile phone which is made by Sharp for two years. This mobile phone has included IC chip, Felica chip, into which I have installed some applications, such as Mobile Suica, Nanaco(Seven Eleven), Edy, QUICPay and MacDonald(Discount coupon) Especially, Mobile Suica is very useful for business person like me because there are many good
fanctions. For example;
- Electronic money: can use it at Kiosk, vending machines, and other store at JR-East and Tokyo Metro.
- Commuter pass: can use it at automatic ticket checkers JR-East and Tokyo Metoro.
- Limited express ticket: can get express e-ticket via mobile internet without going to ticket counters.
- Express resrvation: can get Tokaido-shinkansen e-ticket quickly via mobile internet by discount
- Record system: can see track records, which help to make bill to my companey

That is to say, my mobile phone is more important for me than my wallet. In addition, when I lost my mobile phone last year, my data, electronic money, commuter pass..., was protected by Felica security system.
On the other hand, there are some bad points. First, the boot time of applications is very slow. Second, the cost of access internet site is high. Finally, the service area is narrow now; significantly useful in Tokyo, but extremely not useful in Urasa.

I hope the expanding service area and the emerging new mobile phone in near future.

Transistion from IT -> BT

The transition from IT(Information Technology) to BT (Business Technology)continues, evidenced by the absorption of traditional IT roles throughout the business organization and the increasing number of business executives who are taking ownership of technology decisions. Successful BT operating models exist along a continuum of leadership balance between the CIO (chief Information Officer) and business executives. CIOs in pursuit of successful BT work to grow a partnership between themselves and business leadership by changing the way IT and the business connect around technology management and adopting tactics that help drive the change incrementally.

Thus,,, many companies will tend to outsource their hardcore IT roles, while transferring the cross-functional IT roles to other departments.

Japan's Hottest High Tech Phones From CREATEC

In honor of the last day of CEATEC 2009, the cutting-edge consumer electronics show hosted in Japan, they've put together their favorite "future phones" from the event, an annual hotbed of ideas and innovation.
These phones take mobile communication to a whole new level: imagine a world where phones are made of recycled wood, receivers can channel sound through bone, and mobiles get charged with methanol. It's all here.
Engadget reports: "The clear pebble mock-up (shown above) was easily the crown jewel (in our mind, anyway), with a small black blob able to morph into different screens (media panels, a keypad, web browser, etc.) depending on which corner you drag said blob into." Is Click-through the right metric for marketing success?

According to the case MedNet.com confronts "Click-Through" Competition, we can see that Windham Pharmaceuticals care much for the click-through rate and require MedNet to consider their pricing strategy or they will do business with MedNet's competitors.

But “A click means nothing, earns no revenue and creates no brand equity. Your online advertising has some goal—and it’s certainly not to generate clicks,” said John Lowell, Starcom USA SVP and director, research and analytics, in a statement.

In this article, we can see that even the heavy clickers on online advertising ads only account for 4% of Internet users in the US but they are responsible for 67% of click-throughs on March, 2009. And only 16% in Internet users in the US click on online advertising ads, does it means the numbers reflect the true prospects for the products and attracted by the advertising?

Some recent quotes

Hello everyone,
I've been getting a lot more calls from the media recently, and just wanted to share some of the things that I was working on with you. This is just for your information and enjoyment.
Forbes (Oct. 21, 2009) - In Japan, Android to the Rescue?
The Independent (Oct. 14, 2009) - Japan's Mobiles packed with features
Forbes (Sept. 15, 2009) - In merger, struggling Japanese phone makers try to fight back

Behavioral Targeting Misses Mark

Currently most popular website, such as Google (search engine) or Amazon (e-commerce) provide personalization service to their consumers or visitors. Based on personal details or characteristics of consumer they tailoring its website with related products or services. The aim is to market the products or services. Is it sound good right?

For some reason the answer is yes because marketers said that by targeting the market based on their behavior, consumer tend to see the relevant product or service. Surprisingly, based on a study from researchers at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of California Berkeley School of Law and the Annenberg Public Policy Center, the answer is completely different. Consumers didn't like this personalization. They didn't like the website that track their activities. They feel like their freedom limited by the site. They need to decided by themselves what their needs and interests and they want the site to delete their track activities.

On dis/reinternediation

The way it's explained, it seems technology is driving disintermediation with some backslides. But does technology also create intermediaries where there wasn't before? Um, "enintermediation"?

Two examples that comes to mind is http://877isoldit.com/ and http://www.seoforgoogle.com/. They are intermediaries for online auction and organic search respectively, specifically for eBay and Google. But so far I can't think of any enintermediation by technology in industries other those created by itself.... can you?

why will marketing be more digital, more interactive and more social?

According to Josh Bernoff, vice president at Forrester Research, there are four main reasons why marketing will be more digital, more interactive and more social.First, consumers are spending more their time with digital and consider shopping online relatively cost effective and convenient. They like social media projects, search engine, online video and mobile marketing because it satisfies f their interactive need and social communication. Second, marketer can extend and enhance their existing programs and invites customer to help. Marketers can create their own website with product descriptions, specs, pricing for thousands of items and allow other sites to connect. As a result, they can enjoy the domino effects from the information transmission. Third, digital technology brings advantages for the whole marketing funnel with increase branding, awareness efforts at the big end of the funnel through blogs, banner ads, search ads. Fourth is the long-term effect of digital marketing. Marketing assets like websites, online communities increase over time. You can build them now and tap into them later. And that’s a wiser way to spend money than just running campaigns with the hope of an immediate impact.

Value creation and Value added service, VAS for NGN

Any business success is closely related to value creation. Purpose of any business is to create value for closely linked groups such as customers, employees, and investors. Successful value creation is focused on selecting, developing and rewarding right customers and attractive return for investors.
Making consistently useful products and services for customers is value creation.
Successfull value creation follows well defined value-adding services ( VAS ) and activities.
VAS is popular as a telecommunications industry term for non-core services but, it can be used in any service industry, for instance WEB 2.0.
VAS has unique characteristics and they relate to other services in a completely different way.
There are two types of VAS. The first service type are those value-added services that stand alone from an operational perspective. These types of services need not be coupled with other services, but they can be
For example, SMS could be offered and used as a service without voice calling.
The second, and arguably more numerous and important type of VAS, are those services that do not stand-alone.
As for VAS, I consider about VAS for next generation network (NGN).
Next Generation Networking (NGN) is a broad term to describe some key architectural evolutions in telecommunication core and access that will be diployed over the next 5–10 years. The general idea behind NGN is that one network transports all information and services (voice, data, and all sorts of media such as video) by encapsulating these into packets. NGNs are commonly built around the IP (Internet protocol), and therefore the term "all-IP" is also sometimes used to describe the transformation toward NGN.
Value Added Services for Next Generation Networks examines the quest for the real added value in modern communication systems.

Future of Mobile technologies

Mobile has certainly evolved from a calling device to a smart hand held powerfull information tool. These days we have so much of information around us that to know each and everything is going to be immpossible, But having one such cool device can certainly change the way we operate.

Privacy is big issue for social media marketing

With the development of social networking, the importance of social media marketing is increasingly appreciated. Recently, Emarketer website released a report which ranks social networking as one of the most important online activities, which only falls onl behind email. “This is a particularly important finding,” according to the report, “in that it suggests that these younger users have integrated social networks into their lives to such an extent that it has become a trusted resource for their decision making.”

However another survey done by Pontiflex found that 96% of online adults have shared an e-mail address while only 12% were willing to give their social network user name. According to their interpretation, "users may be more comfortable with sharing via email because of its opt in nature—and brands may need to start with that relationship with users before jumping into acquiring leads via social networking environments". This is true that people are more concerned with their privacy in social networking. To harness Social media marketing to win out in the market, costomers must gain trust from their customers by creating, delivering and communicating value, then social media can contribute more to the success of marketing.

The world in 2009

ITU Telecom World 2009 international forum was held in Geneva a week ago and opened by the UN Secretary-General. ITU means International Telecommunication Union and they released this report titled “The World in 2009: ICT Facts and Figures”.

This report provides very insightful information and important statistics to us. For example: “Mobile cellular has been the most rapidly adopted technology in history. Today it is the most popular and widespread personal technology on the planet, with an estimated 4.6 billion subscriptions globally by the end of 2009 which means 67 people in per 100 inhabitants. Moreover, in 2009, over a quarter of the world’s population-or 1.9 billion people have access to a computer at home. Therefore, ITU announced its latest ICT Development Index. Sweden ranked 1st in Europe and South Korea ranked 1st in Asia and Pacific.”

Here is also a very interesting report titled “Confronting the crisis: Its impact on the ICT industry”. I firmly believe that all those ICT development will eventually wipe out the worldwide digital divide.
