As office suite of interrelated desktop applications competition, there are many competitors
against Microsoft office such as KOffice of GNU, Linux open softwares and Open Office of Sun Solaris.
In a database competition there are a lot of databases competes each other.
Oracle, RDBMS, a major presence in database computing, competes with MSSQL server.
One of the great advantage of this database is that it could run under Microsoft OS and open sources such as UNIX,Linux, Sun Solaris as well.

Regarding to web technology there are competitors such as Microsoft ASP.NET, Ajax services, Java, Perl, PHP.
In addition, for selecting web pages, we can consider databases and web technology on that whether it is compatible with any OS, and security postures.
