e-commerce on Smart TVs

Last week, We E-biz students got the explanation of company profile and Final assignment.
One of Final assignments is how they can boost E-commerce with Smart TV.

Since I had promoted main TV dedicated chips for SMART TV to several Japanese electronics makers like SHARP and Hitachi and around 95% functions of SMART TVs are achieved by the firmware of the main chips,  I would like to analyze current problems of SMART TV.

As the background, E-commerce sites from both PC and TV are basically same.
Why are E-commerce sites unpopular from TV ? There are two reasons for this.

First of all, current Smart TV's interface for deciding what you would like to choose and typing
letters is not matured. For instance, it would be very difficult for people to type letters for search product since no key boards on conventional TV remote controllers.

Secondly, Smart TVs are High-end model and they are normally TVs for living rooms.
Basically, TVs for living rooms are TVs for all family members to enjoy TV programs all together.
If someone in family do e-commerce on TV for living rooms, how other family members feel ?
Basically, current e-commerce sites are targeted to not family but individuals.
Therefore, basic Smart TV concept doesn't match E-commerce value proposition.

Actually, the first problem, the difficulty of interface, can be solved by using "Viera tablet" which can link Viera TV for typing letters.
However, Initial cost would be very expensive compared with already existing laptop or desktop PCs at home. In addition, existing PCs are basically for individual family members, and it is not rare cases that there are several PCs at home.

In brief, my argument is it is essential that Panasonic should improve Smart TVs in order for Panasonic and Digital River to boost e-commerce.

I have some vague ideas to improve this situation though I am still wondering if Digital River is eligible to offer solutions.
