"E"-Idol

Idol market has been growing in Japan.
In 2009 54.5 billion, 2010 55.5 billion, 2011 64 billion, and 2012 more than 70 billion (estimated).
One of the most famous idol units should be AKB48 and now they are expanding to some Asian countries. Like this, I think Japanese idol culture will continue expanding to foreign countries.
This time, i would like to forecast the idol industry from "E" point of view.

Hatsune Miku is a famous "E"-Idol in Japan. That means she does not exist in our real life.
She has been collaborating with some big names such as Google, TOYOTA, and Family Mart.

She has done several live performances in Japan even though she is virtual. The performances were really successful. One of the performances was done on March 9th in 2011. All its tickets were sold out on the first day, and 15 movie theaters showed it as a public viewing. The performance was also shared on Niko-Niko-Douga (online video sharing site) in parallel. On the day, more than 170 thousand people watched it on the site even though the show was not free (cost 2,100 yen) and number of comments to the show were more than 400 thousand. In addition, she is going to be showed in HongKong and Taiwan on this X'mas eve.

It is just amazing.

There are some good things. 1) It is impossible for existing idols to exist several places at the same time, but she can. 2) She is naturally virtual (2D), so people less care to pay 2D things (like Niko-Niko-Douga). 3) If 3D technology is applied to her, it will be more fantastic. I have no idea how much it costs to create and maintain such E-Idols. However, 4) I think she can swim in the Internet well.  It helps her create global awareness much faster than any other existing idols.

Like Hatsune Miku, I think "E"-Idol is one of tools for Idol industries to grow their profit globally.
