Ecosystem and Manipulate Customers' Emotions

Survey of 8933 respondents took by Yahoo indicate that 46% people purchase product because it functionality rather than its coolness. However, do you think people buy iPhone or others Apple product because its functionality? I doubt it. How many of you used all the function of iPhone? Don’t you think that Android could do the same or maybe better? And why some people still have preference on that product?

Apple successfully marketing method for being different and set the prestige inside people mind; people basically want to be different from others, and Apple capture well this attitude at that moment. So do you think that you buy Apple because of it is “cool” or because its function? When you buy Apple products did you compare the price and compare all the feature of Apple and others before buy it?

Let’s not mentioned it too long, my point here is that marketers usually taking advantages from customers emotion rather than people rationality. Many companies doing the same manipulate customers’ emotions, they try to influence the people opinion with some short video or advertisements until people say to the products or to their friends: “Guys, the products is awesome, you must look at this!!” That what viral marketing try to achieve right?

So it is not mentioned that the survey was wrong but in fact it is different with how people act to purchase items. Take a look at these two video Google’s Project Glass on YouTube below. Google basically trying to embed two strategies inside their products, and I think it would be success:

1.       Create ecosystem, with its google+ and so many features such as google maps, LBS and also video conference. It  will be embed customers deeply and their dependable on the products, see the video: http://youtu.be/9c6W4CCU9M4
2.       Manipulating customers’ emotion on how important the products to capture all precious moment of baby and his family. Check the video at http://youtu.be/GZDirHMEmXk
