FreeRice - Another use of banner links

I found that affiliate is not only for company marketing.

If you go to FreeRice, there is a vocabluary questions on the site.
If we answer correctly, FreeRice would donates money
about 10 grains of rice for each question to United Nation
to reduce poverty.
They say that with the customer's ( student's ? ) help,
WE can reduce poverty.

( In addition, they are independent from
politics, religions, or organizations )

Their privacy policy is relatively honest and
I think they USE affiliate model effectively.

This is not so bad idea how to USE banner links.

Very nice idea. I have to admit that the site is addictive since it's a really cool thing that you are improving your vocab and at the same time doing some charity.

However, I was just wondering if this is a really good Busines Model. I agree that this is a fast way to get a lot of traffic to your site within a short span of time. But basically the way they are making money is no differeing from other high traffic site; that is, they are only paid if a customer click on an ad banner and purchase something from their affiliator. ON the other hand, they are paying for every correct word. I would assume the amount they got paid from advertising are about the same as other high traffic site, but they are paying more than those sites to get people to visit them. And since this game is really addictive, how much will they continue to pay once the traffic of the site increases more rapidly?
My opinion is, great idea, but not necessarily profitable!
