iPhone & Android: Driving Innovation

Hey,

Just another way that Android is pushing a message of user-driven innovation is by offering $10 million in prizes for the most innovative apps. The SDK is now available for download, if you guys want to give it a try. I do agree that software is key to making a platform successful, hardware capability is just as important. Things like accelerometers, touch screens, etc. just make for a more interesting hardware layer on which to build great software. Apple is also releasing its iPhone SDK in February 08 (not open source). If the iPhone becomes the platform that analysts are expecting, this is building up to be a battle for mobile hearts & minds. I doubt whether Symbian and Microsoft are aware of their imminent disruption.

See the video for one cool (non-official) iPhone app.

that looks really good. here are some more information about Android, http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/17/162238&from=rss

BTW, about the word "Android" (from wikipedia),
... is a robot designed to resemble a human, usually both in appearance and behavior. The word derives from the Greek andr-, meaning "man, male", and the suffix -eides, used to mean "of the species; alike" (from eidos "species").
