Jeremy Spoke in Class Today

That's actually a line from "Jeremy", a song sung by a Seattle-based grunge band called Pearl Jam. OK, it doesnt have anything to do with emarketing but its a great way to introduce everyone to some music trivia.

in his lecture, what struck me most was the concept of "raving fans". in a world were 20-50% of purchasing decisions are influenced by WoM (McKinsey Report), marketers have to cultivate these raving fans. As Jeremy said in his lecture, 1 raving fan=445 people. If my understanding is correct, thats the number of people a raving fan can converse with and create awareness for a product. that's a great number to feed into one's customer funnel. clearly, the more raving fans, the higher the awareness level (in terms of number of people). while this is just the first step, its a big step and now its up to the marketer how to convert them, create loyalty, and then make them advocates. clearly, advocate-=raving fans because they both do WoM.

rock on Jeremy, rock on...
